Water Law Resources: Abstracts, Indexes & Databases

Overview

Available through the university’s online catalog and the Schmid Law Library homepage, these electronic resources provide references and full-text access to both legal and non-legal materials. Selected individual databases are listed below. Other resources related to specific, individual topics may be useful, so researchers should review the listings under the “Resources & Collections” link (UNL catalog) and the “Research Tools” box under the "Library Links" heading (Schmid Law Library).

To browse for resources more relevant to specific topics, from UNL Libraries' homepage (http://libraries.unl.edu), click on “Resources & Collections”, then select "Databases". From here, you can browse alphabetically or select the "Subject & Course Guides" link at the top of the page.

To browse for resources available through the Schmid Law Library (http://law.unl.edu/library), scroll to the bottom area of the page and click on the “Research Tools” link. From there, browse through alphabetical listings to see the materials available.

Once on the homepage, on the left hand side, select "Practice Centers", then "Environmental & Safety"

This is one of the best resources to find current information about environmentally related issues, as well as to get insights on new and rising legal issues in the area of environmental law. Log in to Bloomberg to save your searches and set up regulatory alerts. In addition to the in-depth environmental law coverage, two specific areas in the Practice Area will be of interest:  in the News box, click on the "Show More" link - see the "Water Law & Policy Monitor" - users can sign up for email updates as well as explore the topics discussed in this Monitor. The second area that may be of particular interest in located in the Practical Guidance box toward the bottom of the page: "Water Quality & Wetlands"; again explore the in-depth coverage available through this resource.

The Index to Legal Periodicals and Books indexes around 1000 leading legal journals, yearbooks, institutes, bar association journals, university publications and law reviews, and government publications from the United States, Puerto Rico, Great Britain, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The database also indexes some 1,400 monographs per year. In addition there is the Index to Legal Periodicals Retrospective that indexes over 500 legal periodicals back to 1918."
